The end of an era.

This isn’t exactly a post in reflection of how a nation changed on a day that seems so recent in my mind as if it were just last year, it is a note of my 911 today. Today is the day where I’m

Unbelievable News Photos

June 17, 2008 on 3:29 am | In Uncategorized | 3 Comments

I’m used to altering real life images but these were genuine news photos over the past week and a half. These photos are so amazing I had to share them.

A car plowed into a bike race along a highway near the U.S.-Mexico border, killing one and injuring 10 others. The 28-year-old driver was apparently drunk and fell asleep when he crashed into the race on Sunday, said police investigator Jose Alfredo Rodriguez. A photograph taken by a city official showed bicyclists and equipment being hurled high into the air by the collision. Rodriguez said Juan Campos was charged with killing 37-year-old Alejandro Alvarez of Monterrey. Authorities said the wreck happened 15 minutes into the 34-kilometer race Sunday along a highway between Playa Bagdad and Matamoros, across from Brownsville, Texas.

ORCHARD β€” Funnel clouds and hail made Tuesday night an anxious one in Mitchell County. Lori Mehmen, who lives on Main Street in Orchard, took a photo from just outside her front door of a large funnel cloud forming shortly after 9 p.m. β€œIt almost looked like it was going to to take the (grain) elevator,” she said. The funnel cloud came near the ground just briefly and then went back up in the clouds.

MY MOTHER WAS A ROOKIE

May 11, 2008 on 6:11 pm | In Uncategorized | 3 Comments

I just happened to stumble upon this photo and letter today as I was sorting through files.
They were sent to my Nanna in 1971 from her daughter-in-law shortly after giving birth to some kid who would eventually grow up to be me.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO ALL YOU ROOKIES.

Dear Folks,
Today I discovered Will’s neck as I gave him a super duper haircut (still leaving some to keep his ears warm). Speaking of ears - Gareth has Morse Micky Mouse ears rather than Brady Mighty Mouse ears and as a friend said, “They seem stuck pretty nicely on his head”.

Will got a raise and as a result is no longer eligible for the $160 traveling expense money we’ve been getting monthly from the county. We hadn’t expected the 160 in the first place, but it was nice while it lasted. Hell be taking a test in an application for a carpenter’s apprentice soon. If he makes it we’ll all be very happy (if not we’re happy anyways - up here any job is a good fortune).

Gareth seems to have his first rash - on his face - which seems to leave out soap or pee as a cause. I think it’s temper. He looks like the “before” for a Phisolex commercial.

Ken’s still invited if he’d like to come up. You all are of course. I really think you’d like this house better than our last one.

Here is a picture of the Brady Batch of Norfolk. Note the panelling. Will says do NOT note his hair. The picture was taken in a hurry by some company - we spent a long time trying to get Gareth to open his eyes and when he did… well, you can see. He has nice gums don’t he?

Thank you again for the cookbook - I say that because I use it so often.
My father is sending us the 2-in-1 stroller from Sears and I was able to warn him about the address business.
Since we don’t have a TV player we’re becoming demonic players of cards, Risk, and Go. If you ever come up, better brush up.

Did we mention that we have aquired a very ornate pump organ and rocker?

We’re paying for a 2 seater couch that has arms that go out for a bed, second hand of course. Perfect for us because we don’t have room for a big sofa or a guest bed.

S’all for now.

Love,
Cathy, Will, & Gareth (”the old pooperoo”)

Humbling…

May 10, 2008 on 7:09 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

… I actually think I’ve done this myself from time to time. What I like about this ACTUAL STORY is the interviewee humbly recognizes it and so freely admits it. Takes a cool person to do that.

SPRING CLEAN UPDATE

Never seems to fail that when I go to do something, Grace (the house cat) is laying right smack on top of it.

The good news is that I did manage to get all my plants into the ground (even bought more). Even somehow managed to get everything out of storage before I had to dish out the $80 for another month. But that just means I have another garage full of stuff to sift through. Can’t figure why I ever chose to save half the stuff. At least I have gotten far enough to plan on my first yard sale (of course the weather report is now looking like rain).

BODYWORLDS 2

April 28, 2008 on 12:03 pm | In Fatherhood | No Comments

5:30 am: Had to wake the lil guy extra early this morning to pack up some snacks, an (almost) fully charged Nintendo DS, 4 manga graphic novels, and a necktie for his school uniform (which he just “loves”). Today is the big trip to the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore.

I’m jealous actually, he will be visiting the “BodyWorlds 2″ exhibit and it looks really quite interesting. Several displays are shown not only as body parts, but as human ingredients in action, just without all that boring skin and clothing.

Generally I like to go on a trip like this with him but I have too much to accomplish both at work and at home so I’ll have to miss out on this trip. No worries, I’m still going to have my own fun with it. I am eager to ask that he describe EVERYTHING he saw on the trip just before presenting a hot platter of spaghetti in clumpy meat sauce for dinner β€” LOL
or should I say: “MeuwWah-HAHAHAHA!”.
